Yes Winter is for the Birds and the Bird Watchers

We have a 140 acre Wild Naturally Organic Farm

and Wildlife Preserve which is habitat to hundreds of birds and other wildlife. When you feed the birds, which is approved and even recommended by the Audubon Society, you are blessed with an intimate association with bird life which becomes wonderfully  addictive. We have some ideas to help you and the birds.

At OUR FARM on ORCAS ISLAND we have an annual

Christmas /Wildlife Tree Hunt which helps pay for the maintenance of some of our projects. We would like to help you enjoy Island Wildlife by showing you what we have learned about backyard bird watching. We think you will be tremendously rewarded by buying a bird watching tree and taking it home with you this winter and starting your own ultimate bird feeding stations in your backyard or on your deck. This December and all through the winter is prime bird feeding time. Don't miss it. Call us now at 360-376-2480

The Connors in Deer Harbor like us a lot. They do their best to make sure we are well fed in the winter

and we make sure they have fun watching us. They let us invite all our friends. Click on those pictures I'm looking at. You'll be glad you did. See that Sharp-shinned Hawk beside the goodies? Yup, yup yup that's a problem  of which we are all acutely aware.       Jay Azure

Sharp Shinned Hawk Good food for Birds Ace the Cat

The smallest and most numerous of the accipiters, the Sharp-shinned Hawk feeds mainly on birds, which it catches in sudden and swift attacks. Its rounded wings and long narrow tail enable it to pursue birds through the woods, making sharp turns to avoid branches.   Ace like most cats loves birds and left to himself can catch even hummingbirds in mid air. We keep him away from the bird feeding stations most of the time. Be aware of predators, nutrition, and cleanliness of feeders. Your birds and other birdwatchers thank you.
